Charles could become King George

Prince Charles
Prince Charles may become known as George when he becomes King, according to newspaper reports.

At the moment he will be Charles III when he takes over, but is thought to be thinking about using one of his other names to become King George VII.

The other two King Charles don't enjoy the best of reputations, with Charles I the only monarch to be executed.

Four of the last six Kings or Queens have changed their names when they have taken the throne.

The last King George, Prince Charles' grandfather, was one of those to change their name, swapping Prince Albert for King George VI.

If Prince Charles did fancy a change upon becoming King he wouldn't be taking on a new name entirely, as he was christened Charles Philip Arthur George.

It's thought he's also considering the new name as a tribute to his grandfather and his wife the Queen Mother, who died in 2002.
