Sony released the third version of their PlayStation console in November 2006 in Japan and the US, but European gamers had to wait till 23 March 2007 after there were problems in making lots of a particular part in the machines.
Key features:
- New games are be played on a hi-tech Blu-ray DVD drive
- Special Cell processor, made for the PS3
- Early versions of the PS3 were able to play PS2 and original PlayStation games
- According to Sony, the PS3 is 35 times more powerful than the PS2
- Up to seven controllers can be connected wirelessly. Controllers have motion sensors so they will respond to the movement of gamers' hands
- Access to the internet
- Updated and improved EyeToy capabilities
The console is similar in terms of size to the PS2 comes in three colours - black, white and silver.
