China to build giant ferris wheel

A ferris wheel
China is planning to build the biggest ferris wheel ever - a whopping 35 metres taller than the London Eye.

The Shanghai Star will stand 170 metres high and will be able to carry over a 1,000 people at a time.

The massive wheel will hold 36 wagons, each with space for 30 people inside, and should be finished by 2008.

For 6.50 people will get a 30-minute ride. But views are not expected to be that good, as Shanghai is often swamped in heavily-polluted fog called smog.

The wheel will be placed on top of a 50 -metre high entertainment and shopping centre.

It's the latest new impressive feature to be built in Shanghai.

In the last few year's the city has also built a huge new Formula One racing circuit, and the world's fastest train line.

Other projects on the go include building one of the world's tallest buildings and the world's longest suspension bridge.
