Gough dazzles to dancing triumph

Darren Gough and dance partner Lilia Kopylova
Cricket star Darren Gough has won Strictly Come Dancing after dazzling final disco dance routine.

When Gough started on the show 10 weeks' ago he couldn't dance at all, but has made a huge improvement since.

Gough is the first male winner of the BBC show, and edged out another sporting star Colin Jackson, who had been tipped to win the show.

But his final dance, using puppets, was slammed by the judges, and may have cost him victory.

Zoe Ball was the first star to drop out of the final, despite being the favourite to win for most of the series.

After his win Gough said: "I thought I would be saying this 10 weeks ago but it has been an amazing journey for a guy who has never danced."

Of his dance partner and teacher Lilia, he said: "She has turned me into some sort of dancer. I cannot believe I had the confidence to do that tonight. I could not have wished for a better partner."
