Rock band Green Day and 50 Cent won six awards each at the 2005 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas.
50 was crowned artist of the year and Green Day picked up best rock artist, as well as winning song of the year for their track Boulevard of Broken Dreams.
50 Cent's other gongs included R&B, rap and Hot 100 artist of the year.
Also celebrating were Mariah Carey, who won five awards, and Shakira and American Idol star Carrie Underwood, who each took three prizes.
Mariah Carey proved that her comeback is continuing to be a success by winning female Billboard 100 album artist and female R&B hip hop artist of the year.
She also won Hot 100 song of the year for We Belong Together.
Carrie Underwood won the Hot 100 song of the year with Inside Your Heaven/ Independence Day, and Shakira was named Latin pop album artist of the year.
Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong was also given the honour of presenting the Century Award, Billboard's highest honour, to veteran rocker Tom Petty.
