Stowaway cat gets luxury journey

Emily the cat
An adventurous puss earned herself a luxury flight home after hiding in a box of paper that was shipped from America all the way to France

Emily the year-old tabby cat sneaked into an office supplies company near her home in Appleton, and hid in a box.

When she emerged in France, thinner but healthy, workers used a number on her collar to contact her owners back home.

Her return trip was more comfortable, as she was flown back, business class, hopefully having learned her lesson.

Emily's Atlantic-crossing holiday lasted about a month, and she apparently developed quite a taste for French cat food.

An airline offered to fly the cat home from Paris after her tale spread around the world and she cleared a one-month quarantine.

The lucky moggy's seat would normally have cost about 3,400. No doubt Emily thought she was the cat's whiskers.

Owner Lesley McElhiney said: "She seems a little calmer than she was before, just a little quieter, a little, maybe, wiser."
