Teddy phone launched for kids

Teddyfone
A teddy bear-shaped mobile phone designed for children as young as four has been launched.

The "Teddyfone" claims to give out 10 times less harmful emissions than a normal mobile and only allows kids to call four pre-programmed numbers.

The phone's makers say parents can also keep track of their children with the phone, and protect kids from the harmful features of an adult mobile.

But critics say children under the age of nine shouldn't use mobiles at all.

Keeping kids safe

One in four children in the UK already has a mobile phone but many people think they're not safe for kids to use.

Some experts fear radiation given off by mobiles is especially harmful to children because their brains are still developing and their skulls are not as thick as adults'.

There is also concern over children being bullied via text messages and abusive calls and also being mugged for their phone.

Parents' concerns

And it's not just the experts that are worried. A survey of 1,232 parents found that mums and dads are concerned too.

Just over a third of parents said they were concerned about the possible health risks of mobiles and almost a quarter were worried about their child's phone being stolen.
