In pictures: I helped change lives in The Gambia

15-year-old Katie from Halifax and her family give money to a charity which helps people in poor countries. She visited the village of Kinteh Kunda in The Gambia to find out how her money is being used.

Katie visited the local school and met the headmaster and pupils who were really happy. Thay kept telling Katie "The more you smile the more the sun shines."

Katie was really badly sun burnt one day and Eva gave her a pot of 'life-saving' cream made from the baobab tree.

Katie was impressed to see that her money is spent on projects the villagers decide on themselves. She said: "It's really rewarding knowing you are helping someone else."
