McFly storm the Smash Hits awards

McFly have confirmed their status as rulers of the pop world after claiming a massive six awards at the T4 Poll Winners' Party with Smash Hits.

Their prizes include stars of the year, best UK band, best single and best album, plus most snoggable male for Danny and top mop for Dougie.

US act Greenday won best international band and best rock act at the awards ceremony in London on Sunday.

And ex-Busted star James' band Son of Dork, took the title of hot new talent.

And there was good news for ex-Blue singer Lee Ryan who was named best solo artist.

The Pussycat Dolls fought off competition from Girls Aloud to win Best Video for Don't Cha.

And Akon was named best R'n'B act, with Eminem crowned best hip-hop act.

Readers voted EastEnders the best TV show, and rated Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the best film, with its lead actor Johnny Depp movie star of the year.

Flop mop named

There was not such good news for Britney Spears who was voted worst dressed star, and for Peter Andre who won worst haircut - or flop mop!

The awards were presented in front of a huge crowd of pop fans at London's Wembley Arena Pavilion.

Bands including McFly, Girls Aloud, Friday Hill, Sugababes and Pussycat Dolls performed on stage alongside Rachel Stevens, Craig David, Lee Ryan and Akon.
