Big changes coming to the charts

A CD and downloading software
The UK music charts are set for a shake-up from Sunday, with downloads and sales in shops in the same chart.

Any track downloaded from a legal website or single bought from a shop from Monday will be included in the first chart on Sunday 17 April.

With downloads making up around 45% of total sales it's hoped the new chart will better show the UK's fave single.

Tony Christie and Peter Kay are currently number one on both the singles chart and the download chart.

No-one knows exactly what's going to happen when the charts are mixed because of the way boys and girls buy their music.

Changing charts
According to record industry experts 96% of downloaders are male, while girls are much more likely to buy their fave singles in shops.

Sales figures from January to March show that Is This The Way To Amarillo? was single most bought in shops, while Stereophonics' Dakota was top download.
