Shark attack girl to share story

Bethany Hamilton lost her arm in a shark attack
A teenage surfer who lost her arm after she was attacked by a shark has been riding the waves in Britain.

Fifteen-year-old Bethany Hamilton, from Hawaii, had to wear a wetsuit which was three times thicker than her normal one when she surfed in Newquay, Cornwall.

Bethany is in Britain to promote her book, which is about her survival story after being attacked by a tiger shark.

"I wrote the book to share my story, to inspire others never to give up and to follow their dreams," she said.

Blue Peter

Bethany said surfing in Cornwall was good but "pretty cold" compared to the waters she was used to.

She also met Blue Peter presenter Gethin Jones, who Bethany taught to surf. This will be shown on an episode of Blue Peter in the future.

Bethany wanted to become a professional surfer until she was attacked by the tiger shark in October 2003. She lost her left arm below the shoulder.

A film based on her life story is also being planned.
