'Gristle burger' to shock kids

British Heart Foundation poster
An effort to shock kids into eating healthy food is being launched by the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

The charity is behind a hard-hitting campaign to show children some of the gross stuff that goes into many burgers, chicken nuggets and hot dogs.

An advertisement shows a burger packed with bone and gristle. It's hoped this will put kids off eating junk.

It's estimated that around 440,000 more UK children will become overweight or obese in the next two years.

By 2020, it's thought that a quarter of UK kids will be overweight.

The campaign - called Food4Thought - follows a BHF survey showing 36% of eight to 14-year-olds did not know the main ingredient of chips was potatoes.

"Kids have lost touch with even the most basic foods and no longer understand what they are eating," said a BHF spokesman.
