I taught my friends about Islam

Mosque

Reem from West Sussex writes about what it's like to be a Muslim in a Christian school and how important it is to have supportive friends.

"Although I was born in Saudi Arabia, I have spent most of my life in Britain.

I came to this country when I was two years old.

School

I go to a Church of England school where they respect other religions.

Even though I am the only Muslim in the whole school, nobody treats me any differently.

Festivals

In the month of Ramadan, when I am fasting, my friends take special care of me and try their hardest not to mention food in front of me during the hours of sunlight.

On Eid, I receive presents and cards from my friends and I reciprocate at Christmas.

Religious Studies

We study all sorts of religions but recently we studied Islam and I was asked to give a small talk on it.

My classmates were quite fascinated because they didn't know anything about Islam.

I enjoy going to school to study and to be with my friends and participate in every lesson.

I enjoy being a Muslim and nothing anyone says will change my mind."
