This timeline looks back over the events leading up to and including the trial.


13 June

Jury clears Michael Jackson on all charges

3 June

The jury are sent out to consider their verdict.

12 May

Former child star Macaulay Culkin told the court that Michael Jackson did not hurt him when he was 13 years old. Home Alone star Culkin, now 24, also told the court that although he shared a bed with the singer any allegations of abuse were "absolutely ridiculous".

15 March

The boy who has accused Michael Jackson of mistreating him admits telling a former teacher that the singer had done nothing to him.

10 March

Michael Jackson is more than an hour late for court after being taken to hospital with back problems. He eventually arrives at the court looking frail and wearing pyjama trousers.

28 February

Michael Jackson's trial begins in California.

15 February

Michael Jackson is taken to hospital with flu, delaying the trial by a week.

4 December

Police have another look inside Michael Jackson's Neverland home.

27 July

The start date for the trial is delayed until 1 January 2005.

28 May

A judge decides the trial will being on 13 September.

30 April

Michael Jackson pleads not guilty to 10 charges of hurting a child.

21 April

It's decided that Michael Jackson must stand trial.

16 January

Michael Jackson pleads not guilty.

Charges made against Michael Jackson

20 November

Michael Jackson arrested by police then freed, but only after giving them $3m as bail, which he would lose if he tried to run away.
