At least 60 people have been killed after fighting broke out between authorities and rebels in southern Russia on Thursday morning.
Most of those killed are thought to be rebels linked to the conflict in Chechnya, but 12 civilians are also reported to have died in the shoot-out.
The attacks focused on government buildings. Pupils were also safely evacuated from a nearby school.
It's thought the school is close to an anti-terrorism base.
Officials say 150 gunmen launched an attack on the security services early on Thursday morning. Reports also say gunmen have taken several police officers hostage.
A website is reporting that Chechen rebel forces have said they are responsible for the attacks on government buildings.
Chechnya conflict
Chechnya is a region within the Russian Federation but it declared itself independent from Russia in 1991.
Chechens are fighting against the government because they want full independence - to be able to run themselves completely.
In September 2004 331 people including 186 children were killed when Chechen gunmen stormed a school in Beslan.
