My school helps to keep me healthy

School dinners
There has been a lot in the news recently about healthy eating and school dinners.

Margarita tells us how her school is keeping its pupils healthy.

"Healthy eating is the best way to stay active and it keeps your body in nice working order.

My school has introduced a variety of ways to keep healthy.

School dinners

We eat healthy foods, we play sports and we learn about healthy eating in our social science classes.

In our canteen, we only have chips once a week and vending machines with chocolate and crisps have been banned.

For lunch we have set menus that are very appetising and healthy and we have a sandwich stand and a salad bar.

In the mornings, our school provides different nutritional breakfasts such as cereals and toast.

Learning about food

We are informed of what's in the news about health, such as diabetes.

We also learn how to protect ourselves by eating sensibly and doing regular exercise.

In food technology, we learn about the uses of different food groups and make our own healthy food to suit the government's guidelines.

I believe that more schools should follow this example and the students should be more aware of the dangers of an unhealthy lifestyle."

Margarita, 13, Kent
