A British man has been shot dead in Afghanistan, the Foreign Office said.
Steven MacQueen, 41, was working as an adviser to the Afghan government in the capital, Kabul, when he was shot outside a guest house on Monday.
He was driving through the centre when he was shot at by men in two cars, just outside a hotel where people working for the United Nations stay.
It is not yet clear why Mr MacQueen was targeted. His family are being told of the sad news, a spokesman said.
Mr MacQueen worked as an adviser to Afghanistan's ministry of rural construction and development.
There has not been much violence in the city of Kabul since the first Afghan elections were held in October.
