The centre produces a big selection of African arts and crafts

Five students from Sheffield travelled to South Africa to practise their media skills as part of a special exchange.
The trip was organised so young people from both countries could learn about each other's cultures.
In the second of a series of reports about their African adventures, Edman writes about their trip to a traditional craft centre.
"On the fourth day of our trip we visited Rorke's Drift where there was a craft centre full of traditional African pottery, as well as fabrics, beadwork and wooden objects.
I knew I had struck gold when I saw all the pots because for my GCSE art exam I have decided to do African pottery, so seeing all those pots really will help my studies.
They were beautifully decorated with African art and they were so unusual.
After admiring all the pottery, I was surprised to hear that some of them were handmade by local students who took part in craft and art classes.
Family support
I was happy to hear if the pots were sold the students could take the money.

There were also older women who were teaching the students how to make traditional zulu pots.
The women are paid a small amount for this but they can also keep the money from any of their work which is sold. This helps to support many families in the village.
I interviewed a few of the students who were making tea sets and pots, and they all told me how fun and relaxed the classes were.
All the work the students were doing was great and you could see just how much effort and time they had put into it.
The perfect pot
I was quite jealous because I would have loved to do those classes but they don't do any in my area. However, I still felt privileged that they showed me all their hard work.

After the interviews, I looked at some more pots and I couldn't resist buying my favourite.
I love my pot very much and I feel good knowing that I bought something that was handmade with a lot of skill and creativity.
Now I will have to make sure my pot doesn't smash - and luckily, it hasn't broken yet!"
