Guides: Bird Flu

Last Updated: Thursday April 06 2006 13:35 GMT

What's being done to keep us safe?

Firstly, it's important not to worry - there's only a very small chance of danger.

But just in case a new human-to-human virus does become a problem, the UK Government have bought 14 million vaccines to stop the disease spreading quickly.

They can't make a full cure for the human version of bird flu because the disease hasn't appeared yet.

But if it does happen, plans already exist to stop it spreading - including stopping big gatherings at schools, pop concerts and football matches.
