Simpsons named top cartoon stars

The Simpsons are the UK's fave animated characters, according to a poll.

Bart and family topped a list of 100 cartoons, set to be revealed on Channel 4 on Sunday, with cat and mouse duo Tom and Jerry taking the runner-up spot.

The Simpsons cartoon is now in its 16th year. It saw off stiff competition from the Toy Story films (which came 4th) and the two Shrek movies (placed 6th).

The cartoons your mum and dad used to watch didn't do so well, though, with Mickey Mouse only managing 30th place.

British cartoon characters to feature in the top 50 included Wallace and Gromit, at 15, and Danger Mouse, which was placed 24th.
