On 22 February each year, Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from lots of different countries pledge to be friends and to understand each other.

This date was first celebrated in 1927 and marks the joint birthday of World Chief Guide Olave Baden-Powell and her husband, the founder of the Guides, Robert Baden-Powell.

In the United Kingdom, a joint service is held by Girlguiding UK and the Scout Association in Westminster Abbey, London. During the service, wreaths are laid on the Baden-Powell memorial stone.
