England earn historic Ashes win

Kevin Pietersen in action for England

England have sealed an historic Ashes triumph against Australia, after the final Test was drawn at the Oval.

Kevin Pietersen was the hero for England, scoring a brilliant 158 for the home side, helping his side bat almost all day to save the match.

Australian legend Shane Warne took six wickets on his final Test in England, finishing the series with 40 victims.

The drawn final Test meant England's 2-1 lead going into the final match sealed a first Ashes win for 18 years.

England were all out for 335 giving them a huge lead of 342, and more importantly, leaving Australia not enough time to score enough runs.

The match also saw the final Test appearances of Warne and pace bowler Glenn McGrath in England.

Between them they have taken more than 1,100 Test wickets, and will be hoping to win back the Ashes for Australia when England next tour there in 2006/07.
