Macaque monkeys warm up in hot springs

These Macaque monkeys are keeping snug and warm in some hot springs in Japan.

This troop of Macaque monkeys often visits the hot springs to escape the chilly weather.

Macaque monkeys are also known as snow monkeys and live further north than any other monkeys. No wonder they need hot springs to keep warm!

As well as warming the monkeys up the hot springs are said to help with aches, pains and tiredness!

They first started using the hot springs when a female monkey climbed into the pools to rescue some soybeans she had accidentally dropped in.

Some of the other monkeys started copying her and eventually the whole troop began relaxing in the springs.

Macaque monkeys are very social and the young monkeys spend a lot of time playing together.
