Fish lands job at football club

A goldfish has earned itself a job at a football club after being washed from its home in recent floods in Carlisle.

Judy the goldfish has been named mascot of Carlisle United after she showed up on their pitch at Brunton Park.

Judy, and another fish, who will also be a mascot, were found as water was being pumped from the pitch.

Judy's owner, four-year-old Ashleigh Turk, has agreed to donate the goldfish to Carlisle United after she was washed from her sideboard.

Emma Story, daughter of club owner Fred Story, saved them from being stepped on.

She said: "We managed to win the match against Redditch on Sunday, and the fans began to say the fish represented the fighting spirit of the club."

Both fish will be kept in the offices until they officially take on their mascot roles at the club's reception.
