Floods cause chaos across Europe

Victims of the flood in Romania
Heavy rain has brought havoc throughout central and eastern Europe, killing up to 34 people in powerful floods.

Romania is the worst affected place, as seven elderly people were killed overnight, making a total of 25 deaths.

In Switzerland, Austria and Germany, emergency services are struggling to deal with the floods, and 11 people have been reported dead or missing.

Thousands of people have been forced to abandon their homes, and many are still unable to return.

People are being rescued from their houses by helicopters as mudslides have blocked roads.

The rains stopped overnight, and some forecasters think the worst is now over.
