A nine-year-old boy has won a place in TV history after his design for a Doctor Who monster was selected to appear in the show's new series.

William Grantham from Colchester impressed the judges of the Blue Peter competition with his creation.

It's called an Abzorbaloff and it soaks up its victims with its massive body.

Doctor Who actor David Tennant was among the judges in the contest, which attracted a whopping 43,920 entries from young viewers.

A Blue Peter spokesman said: "We were staggered by the popularity of the competition.

"We knew Doctor Who had been a huge hit with our audience but this was something else."
