Max is most popular name for pets

Max has been voted the most popular name in Britain - if you're an animal!

Vets charity PDSA found the top three names for animals from chinchillas to Chihuahuas were Max, Ben and Charlie.

The survey was taken from records of 300,000 pets treated by vets in 2004, and included animals like dogs, cats, rabbits and budgies.

The most popular name for dogs was Ben, while cats were most likely to be called Tigger. Top name for rabbits was Thumper and for budgies, Joey was fave.

Liza Randall, PDSA spokesperson commented on how many names more usually associated with humans were used for pets.

"This reflects the important role that pets have in our lives as a cherished addition to the family," she said.
