P Diddy drops P to be just Diddy

US rapper and producer and actor Diddy
US rapper and actor P Diddy has said he's dropping the P from his name and wants to be called Diddy from now on.

Diddy, who was called Puff Daddy until changing his name in 2001, said the move was to "simplify things".

Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, first made his name as a producer, before starting his own record label and becoming a rapper himself.

This name change is also part of the publicity for the MTV Awards, which Diddy is hosting later in August.

It's not just the music business where Diddy has proven a success - he's also acted in films and has his own clothing line, called Sean John, which uses his middle name.

He spoke about the latest change to a US newspaper, saying: "Nobody knew what to call me.

"I'd notice that people were uncomfortable when I'd meet them for the first time, and then they'd ask me what they should call me.

"I even started to get confused myself - and when I'd called someone on the telephone it took me a long time to explain who I was. Too long."
