Kids sell gifts for disaster fund

Big-hearted kids have been selling their Christmas presents to help victims of the Asian tsunami disaster.

A group of kids from Bristol raised £275 by selling their pressies on a stall. "I hope it does good," one of them told The Sun newspaper.

The kids are among millions of people worldwide who have made donations to the disaster fund, with more than £1bn having already been raised.

The December 26 tragedy killed nearly 140,000 in 11 countries.

An earthquake in the Indian Ocean sent giant waves crashing into the coast, wiping out entire communties. More than 94,000 people died in Indonesia.

The country has now said it will set up an early-warning system for disasters with its neighbours.

More than a week after the tragedy, hopes of finding more survivors are fading.

Sri Lanka and India say they are almost ready to give up on more than 11,000 missing people.

Emergency supplies are getting through to the affected areas, but the effort has been disrupted by poor weather.
