Schools to offer kids more sport

Kids will be given the chance to play more sports at school, under government plans to get children more active.

Every pupil will be offered at least five hours of sport a week, either in school time or in after school clubs.

Half a billion pounds will be spent on the scheme to make more special sports colleges, and let normal schools share sports equipment and fields.

Prime Minister Tony Blair said the plans will help cut the number of kids who are dangerously overweight.

The plans include getting kids to do more unusual sports, like yoga and Tai Chi.

Mr Blair said: "You've got to bring back school sport. It's still very, very important."

He also added that sport could help people learn how to win, lose and be part of a team.

The plans are set to come in by 2010.
