Gamers in Japan queued for hours on Sunday to become owners of Sony's first ever handheld game console.
200,000 copies of the Sony PlayStation Portable went on sale, and experts say it will challenge Nintendo's grip on the handheld gaming industry.
The new device can play games, music and movies, and can let users hold gaming sessions with other players.
But Nintendo will be fighting back by shipping two million more copies of their new DS handheld console in 2005.
Sony has led the computer games market for years, but it has never had a device like Nintendo's popular Gameboy player.
Game fans in the UK can expect the Sony PSP to hit stores in 2005.
