Healthy look for Ronald McDonald

McDonalds mascot Ronald McDonald
McDonald's has already given its menu a healthy new look with salads and juice, and now Ronald McDonald is getting a sporty update too.

He's seen snowboarding, juggling fruit and playing football in a new TV advert to be shown around the world.

But there are no plans to show the new sporty Ronald advert in the UK at the moment, McDonald's told Newsround.

Burgers and fries, the food McDonald's is most famous for don't feature at any point in the advert.

Ronald McDonald's career
McDonalds has introduced healthier foods
1963: Ronald makes his official debut
1965: His first appearance at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade
1966: First TV advert featuring Ronald McDonald
1971: Ronald joined by other characters, including Hamburglar and Grimace
1994: Ronald McDonald Children's Charities celebrate 20th anniversary
2005: McDonald's announces Ronald's sporty new look
He's still wearing his famous curly red wig and make-up, but has been given a funky new tracksuit and and cool cold weather gear for his snowboard.

McDonald's has been trying to improve its image in recent years, after a number of people blamed its food after they became overweight.

Top McDonald's marketing man Jeff Carl said: "He's encouraging children to get up on their feet and start moving. So if he is going to teach this, Ronald has to start moving himself."
