Fingertip scanning - is it a good idea?

Fingerprint
Pupils at a school in Cambridge are going to have their fingertips scanned to register in class. If kids turn up late, or don't turn up at all, their parents will automatically be sent a text or email.

Do YOU think that scanning fingertips is a good way of registering in school?

Is it easy to skip class at your school and avoid being caught?

If your parents were told quickly if you didn't turn up to school would you feel safer?

Or do you think scanning fingertips is a bit extreme?

Yes, it is a good idea! It will make pupils feel more safe and secure at school and it will also reduce the amount of children bunking off school too!
Laurel, 14, Birkhill

I think it's a rather good idea. With the increasing number of people who skip class and don't get caught, or just lie to their parents about when they are let out of school it's needed.
Rachael, 14, London

I think finger scanning is a good idea as it means that people can't get their friends to say 'yes' in the register. We do finger scanning to get books out of our school library.
Joanna, 13, Coventry

This is just plain ridiculous. It's a waste of time and money.
Emma, 14, Kilmarnock

School will become more high tech if you like it or not. Fingertip scanning is an excellent way to register. Safer, and cool.
Ed, 13, Lincoln

I think that fingertip scanning is a good idea. So now the students who bunk their lessons can be easily caught.
Anu, 13, Wokingham

The idea is rubbish. I don't like it because the teacher could notice if everyone is there or not. They just need to do the register every morning. In my class we say how we feel about coming to school. That's a better idea than fingertip scanning.
Stephen, 10, Glasgow

I think it is a good idea, as it would make people feel safer and more secure.
Jade, 13, Crediton

I think it is a good idea as you can keep track of kids and make sure that they don't bunk off.
Abi, 10, Radlett

I think that, unless the school has a bad problem with bunking off, finger printing is a bad idea. It will only save a little bit of time and a lot of money will have to be spent on the machines.
Agnes, 12, Bristol

It's ridiculous! Schools are becoming more and more like prisons! All our freedom is being taken away! Its not fair!
Melissa, 13, Bournmouth

I think that scanning fingerprints is a bit extreme, but it would make me feel safer.
Alice, 13, Hassocks

I think this idea is way over the top. It's ridiculous! I'd understand fingertip scanning in a prison, but in a school? I think kids would be angry, and might see it as a challenge to try and beat the system.
Becki, 12, Aylesbury

It's a pretty cool way of registering, but I think it is a bit too extreme. Sometimes it's not your fault if you're late!
Liz, 13, Bristol

When a teacher calls the register some pupils shout 'yes' for their friends who are skipping class. Sometimes the teacher doesn't even realise. I reckon this would be much harder to fake.
Sarah, 13, Sheffield
