Top of the Pops to move to BBC2

Fern Cotton presents TOTP
After 40 years of being shown on BBC1 Top of the Pops is moving to BBC2.

BBC bosses said their biggest pop programme will also move from Friday nights to a new time slot on Sunday, and will get another new look.

It will be the first time ever the show will go out on a Sunday, and BBC managers hope it will develop a closer relationship with the Radio 1 Chart.

Last year TOTP relaunched as the All New Top of the Pops in an attempt to bring viewers back to the show.

New presenter Tim Kash and then CBBC's Fearne Cotton were brought in to host the programme but the number of people watching didn't go up.

Instead they remained at around three million people a week, less than half the audience it had 10 years ago.

BBC Two controller Roly Keating said: "It's an exciting new era for Top of the Pops. We want to make it bigger and better so that it becomes the ultimate pop music show for music lovers of every generation."
