Who is fighting who?

The fighting is going on between rebel forces and a group of Arab fighters called the Janjaweed.

The janjaweed say that some of the black Africans who lived in Darfur were against the government.

But the rebels say the janjaweed who support the government are actually murdering innocent people and want the land for themselves.

Over 400 villages have been burnt down and people who have survived have been left homeless and scared.

Eye witnesses including BBC journalists say that the Sudanese police have been involved in attacks against refugees in camps in Sudan but the government denies this.
