Guides: Bird Flu

Last Updated: Thursday April 06 2006 13:36 GMT

Is it safe to eat chicken?

Yes. Experts say the flu virus is not carried by food, so eating chicken is safe.

What about eggs?

Experts say there is no health risk from eating properly-cooked eggs.

That's because proper cooking stops the virus from working.

To date, there is no evidence to suggest that anyone has caught bird flu by eating eggs or food containing eggs.

How about touching uncooked chicken?

You should always wash your hands after handling raw meat.
