Iraq - a rich mixture

Iraq was created from the ruins of the Ottoman Empire in 1921 by the British.

It is made up of a large amount of different peoples, all with separate cultures, histories and religions.

Saddam Hussein used his military power to hold this mixture of 23 million people together for his own purposes.
