It's when someone in your family is being violent at home.

The adults may be hurting each other, or one of them may be hurting you.

Violence can come in many forms and might include some of the following:

Physical

  • Pushing
  • Slapping
  • Kicking
  • Spitting
  • Pulling hair
  • Punching
  • Choking

    Emotional or mental:

  • Constant criticism
  • Threatening to hurt a partner or their friends, family or pets
  • Preventing someone from seeing friends
  • Taking money and not paying back
  • Controlling other parts of partner's life - where they go, who they see, what they wear
