Did everyone agree with the war?

Anti-war protesters gather in Trafalgar Square, central London in 2004

No. There were protests around the world when it seemed like fighting was about to start and they have continued since.

In 2003 there was a huge protest in the UK against the war in Iraq. Police say 750,000 people took part, organisers say it was nearer two million.

There were also protests all around the world before the invasion started, but the military action went ahead anyway.

More recently, there have been lots of protests about foreign troops remaining in Iraq - several years after the war and the fall of the former president Saddam Hussein.
