What are manufactured groups?

Girls Aloud
These are groups that have been put together by a record company.

The record bosses have complete control over what their band looks and sounds like. Sometimes, even the answers they give in interviews are tightly controlled.

Over the last 10 years, manufactured groups have become the biggest things in UK pop music.

Some made-to-measure bands have been:

  • Girls Aloud
  • Westlife
  • Blue
  • A1
  • 5ive
  • Spice Girls
  • Hear'Say
  • Liberty X
  • Boyzone
  • Take That
  • New Kids On The Block
