C-3PO and R2-D2

Star Wars droids R2-D2 and C-3PO
Droids C-3PO and R2-D2 are two of the most important characters in the Star Wars universe.

R2-D2 came from Naboo, where he worked aboard the Queen's ship and played a huge part in her escape from the planet, repairing her ship in space.

The ship needed more work so landed on the planet of Tatooine where R2-D2 met C-3PO - who had been built by Anakin Skywalker - for the first time.

Threepio remained on Tatooine when Artoo left with Padme and Anakin, helping Shmi Skywalker after she was married.

He only left the desert world when Anakin returned years later with Padme, braving his first trip on a spaceship.

Artoo continued to serve the Queen, even after she became a Senator, and helped Threepio survive the battle on Geonosis.

Later they played a key role in helping the Republic battle the Empire, taking the plans for the Death Star from Princess Leia to Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine - although they couldn't remember being there before.

They became Luke Skywalker's droids and helped him rescue Leia from the Death Star and stayed with the rebels afterwards.

The pair split after the battle of Hoth, with Artoo going with Luke to Dagobah and Threepio with Han Solo and Leia to Cloud City.

Their adventures continued when they went to Tatooine again, this time as part of a secret plot to release Han from the clutches of Jabba the Hutt.

They also played a big part on the moon of Endor, helping the rebels shut down the shield generator so the second Death Star could be destroyed, ending the reign of the Empire.
