Beverley Knight has been a soul singer for quite a while. She was making hits while Joss Stone hadn't started senior school.
As her new single Come As You Are hits the shops, she's popped into the NR studio to answer our hard-hitting questions about life at school!
What was your most embarrassing moment at school?
I am very short sighted - I now wear contacts - but well, at school I took off my glasses for Joseph and Technicolor Dream Coat - I was the narrator - I appeared at the top of the stage and sing - and I was meant to walk down the steps...
I promptly fell all the way down stairs and all the first years laughed at me and I was in my last year - very embarrassing.
How much pocket money did you get?
About £1.50!
What was your favourite cartoon?
Was probably Tweetie Pie 'cos people would call me Tweetie on account of my puffy cheeks!
Who was your favourite teacher and why?
I was very lucky to have a few favourite teachers - one was Mrs Barnard. She would say to me "Beverley, there isn't a thing you can't do - the world is YOUR oyster!" I'll never ever forget that lady.
What made you cringe most?
Probably my younger brother!
Who was your hero or heroine?
Musically, when I was younger, Prince! At home and in regular life my mum, she's wicked!
Were you bullied?
At school there were only a few instances of bullying - I could usually talk my way out of anything - so no.
When I was older there were some horrid instances but they weren't really bullying - incidents to do with colour which is never nice.
What did your school report say?
I talk too much but I was smart and very attentive and very clever too!
What was your nickname?
One was 'Tweetie Pie'. One was 'Penfold' from the cartoon Dangermouse cos I wore glasses and 'Mr Magoo' (from a children's TV programme) for the same reason and 'Bagpuss' 'cos my eyes are big.
What was your worst ever school punishment?
Believe it or not - Lines. It was for talking in class so I had to write "I must not talk in class" - but I never had detention 'cos I was a good girl!
