  Britney forced to cancel US tour

Britney Spears has cancelled the summer leg of her US tour after having an operation on her knee last week.

The singer has been ordered by doctors to put her feet up and wear a special leg brace to help the damaged joint get better, say her record label Jive.

Britney will need at least another 12 weeks rest before her knee is repaired.

The Onyx Hotel tour covered 36 cities and was meant to run from 22 June to 15 August. The star says she hopes to revisit the cities in the future.

Britney had surgery last Wednesday after her knee "gave out" during a video shoot with rapper Snoop Dogg.

The video was being made to promote her new single Outrageous, one of the songs on the new Catwoman film soundtrack.

Old injury

Britney's knee problem is thought to be an old dance injury that has already forced her to cancel two shows in March.

It's not yet known whether the injury will force the singer to pull out of her first concert in China later this year.
