  Busted site promotes safe surfing
Updated 13 September 2004, 15.59
The boys from Busted
Busted's website is urging kids to follow safe surfing guidelines after one of its users was tricked by a man posing as a teenage fan.

The band's site now has safety guidelines on its message board, telling kids they shouldn't share their personal details with anyone else.

It comes after a suspected child-abuser sent e-mails to a Kent schoolgirl.

A Busted website spokesman said: "Please be careful because other users might not be who they say they are."

He said the case had highlighted the need for web safety.

"Hopefully it will encourage parents and kids to be more vigilant."

Support

The site is really popular, getting 700,000 page impressions each week. The man who made contact with the schoolgirl has never been traced.

The website spokesman said the Busted boys, who have just returned from the US, would "defintely" support the safe surfing message.

"We are always looking at ways of improving the safety of the site," he added.
