  Fame Academy James for Eurovision
Updated 29 February 2004, 10.41
James Fox
Ex-Fame Academy student James Fox has been chosen to represent the UK at this year's Eurovision song contest.

The 27-year-old was picked out of five rivals in a live vote on BBC One with his song Hold On To Our Love.

The Cardiff lad will go against 23 other tunes in Istanbul on 15 May. He's hoping to do better than last year, when Jemini got no points for the UK.

James seemed confident of doing well. He said: "Bring it on! I have a proven track record, so I'm well equipped."

Madison Taylor
Madison Taylor is just 16

James beat other contenders including favourites Hyrise, a boy band, and 16-year-old Madison Taylor from Wales.

Organisers were very keen for Britain not to repeat the awful performance of 2003.

All but one of the songs which were short listed were written by people who've penned songs for the likes of Christina Aguilera and Westlife.

The UK has won the contest five times, most recently in 1997 with Katrina and the Waves' Love Shine a Light.
