Around 40 singles are released each week, and many of them are from unknown artists who need lots of promotion.
And with fewer people than ever buying singles, record companies need cheaper ways to make sure you hear about their new acts.
So getting kids to big-up their bands to their friends in the form of street teams is becoming a very popular tactic.
Lucy is on Busted's team: "It's good knowing you're out there, publicising the band and helping to make them big."
But while she's happy to help out her fave popstars, she's not convinced the rewards match her hard work.
"We should get more for doing it, we're publicising them for free."
So if you're thinking about joining a street team for your favourite band, make sure you check out what freebies are on offer before committing yourself.
