Downloading music off the net is now the second most popular way of buying music in the UK, over DVDs and vinyl.
The Official Charts Company (OCC) say more than 150,000 downloads were sold in January, including a record 50,000 in the last week of the month.
That week saw George Michael's Amazing top the download chart. The OCC plan to combine downloads into their Official Singles Chart later this year.
But CDs remain top dog - in the same week 341,461 were sold.
