UK music downloads to get easier
Updated 16 January 2004, 20.44

Downloading music legally is going to get easier in the UK when two new official serices hit the internet.

Napster is coming back, legally this time, and soft drinks maker Coca Cola is launching a download service too.

Coca Cola say theirs is the biggest collection of legally downloadable music on the internet, but kids won't be able to use it.

At the moment you have to be over 18 to use the site, because you need a credit or debit card to pay for the songs.

Napster used to let people share files illegally, but now it's got backing from the record industry, and charges music fans who want to buy tunes.

Coca Cola's service starts on Monday, and will cost as little as £6.40 an album and 80p per single.

The British record industry are very keen on schemes like these because they want to crack down on the number of people sharing and swapping music.

It's thought that if the choice to download legally is there - and is cheap enough - people will use it.
