The chairman of Telstar, who sell records by Mis-teeq and Craig David, said the station plays half as many UK tunes as it did five years ago.
A Radio 1 spokesman said it already played a lot of UK music.
The radio station says they make sure more than three in every 10 records they play are from the UK.

But an important music magazine said only 32 of the 100 most played tunes on Radio 1 in the first six months of 2003 were from the UK.
Commercial radio stations played 48 UK songs out of the 100.
