Top judge learns rap lyrics from the 'net
Updated 06 June 2003, 18.39
The Heartless Crew won their court case
A baffled high court judge has been taking lessons in rap lyrics so he could decide the winner in a court case.

Mr Justice Lewison had to decide if The Heartless Crew had made another songwriter look bad when they sampled one of his tracks.

Another garage act Andrew Alcee said that when the Crew used his track Burnin' (recorded under the name Ant 'ill Mob) as a backing track, they added words about violence and drugs.

But the judge said they didn't, but admitted that they may as well have been in a foreign language.

So to work out what the weird words meant Judge Lewison logged onto the net so he could use an urban dictionary.

He said it had been very strange, sat with two other judges trying to understand what phrases like "shizzle" and "mish mash" meant.

The Crew won the case

Talking about the court case, he said since Alcee had been in the video for the song dressed as a gangster, he couldn't complain that the Crew's version made him look bad.
